The beginning of 2020 was marked by the novel COVID-19 outbreak, when the country was already amid a crippling socio-economic crisis, with total collapse and the threat of hunger looming. Lockdown and other measures further exacerbated existing difficulties.

Healthcare in Action

In response to the dire situation, we swiftly mobilized our humanitarian forces and initiated a comprehensive food campaign that spanned across the entire country. Our mission was to distribute essential supplies, including food parcels, milk, diapers, hygiene kits, and other sanitary equipment, to families in need, orphanages, nursing homes, charity organizations, public hospitals, and various institutions.

Understanding the importance of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene during a pandemic, we extended our efforts beyond just providing food. We launched sterilization campaigns that covered streets and public parks, ensuring that these spaces remained as safe as possible for the general public.

However, the disease outbreak posed an additional burden on an already overburdened and under-resourced healthcare system. Rafik Hariri University Hospital (RHUH) emerged as the primary facility for treating COVID-19 cases. Despite the presence of dedicated medical personnel, the hospital’s health system was already grappling with structural and technical challenges.

To alleviate the strain on the healthcare system, we took proactive measures. Firstly, we installed a medical tent adjacent to the emergency department of RHUH, creating a designated space for Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing.
Additionally, recognizing the need for testing facilities in other regions, we established another tent in Tripoli. Moreover, we extended our reach by conducting home visits, ensuring that individuals who were unable to access the hospital could still receive necessary medical attention.

Furthermore, we recognized the importance of uninterrupted power supply for the smooth functioning of RHUH. To support the hospital in this aspect, we generously donated 10,000 liters of diesel, helping to ensure that critical medical equipment and facilities could operate without disruption.

Despite the immense challenges faced, we remained committed to providing assistance and support to the community, both in terms of immediate relief and long-term resilience. By addressing the pressing needs of vulnerable populations and collaborating with healthcare institutions, we strived to navigate through this unprecedented crisis together.
